EATONIA OASIS LIVING - October 2009

October 31, 2009

October has passed bringing with it shorter days, crisp fall air and the deep rich colors of autumn.  Our residents have enjoyed watching the season change and the continuous weather surprises have kept everyone wondering what will come next.  This month we celebrated Thanksgiving, and enjoyed reminiscing about turkeys and pumpkin pies.  The residents kept busy with numerous activities which included Wii bowling, manicure day, bingo, balloon badminton, “guess the word” game, and attending the various church services.  A few highlights included a very enjoyable music night on October 5.  Thank you to Tilly Reikert, Mary Skjei, Walter Assmus, Merv Vitsco, Florence Palmer, and Dennis Kanasevich for sharing your wonderful musical talents with us; it was much appreciated by all.  We also enjoyed a cinema afternoon, and watched “Anne of Green Gables” while sipping tea and munching on popcorn. Many of our residents shared their memories of reading the “Anne” books when they were young.  The residents also enjoyed two craft afternoons with Marie Smith and Heather Bews, where they created little “Turkey” candy dishes, and Halloween pumpkin door hangers.

One behalf of everyone at EOL we are pleased to welcome two new residents to our facility; Guy and Arlene Sabey from Leader, who moved in on October 3rd.   We celebrated one birthday this month, Arlene Sabey’s on Ocoboter 5.  Thank you to the Lutheran church ladies who hosted a birthday party on October 22.  This month we said farewell to Elsie Calvert who moved to Rosetown, and Joseph Stang who moved to Macklin.  We will miss being gifted with Elsie’s beautiful homemade scarves, and miss trying to win at Wii bowling with Joe.  EOL sends our heartfelt condolences to the family of Guy Boisvert who passed away on October 17.   As October comes to an end we have a total of 21 residents in our facility.  We are also pleased to welcome a new member of staff to our team; Heather Bews who is the new Activity Director/Administrative Assistant.

The residents and staff always enjoy seeing and visiting with people from our community.  If anyone would like to come in and volunteer please give Heather a call at 967-2447 to set up a time.  If anyone in the community is in need of a walker, electric bed or scooters please call Krista at 967-2447.  There are still 3 walkers, 1 electric bed and 1 scooter available for resale.  Please call the office and set up a time to view these items.

The Board of Directors would like to tender repairs at EOL.  These repairs include but are not limited to repairing and patching walls, replacing ceiling tiles, and painting.  Please contact Krista at 967-2447 to set up a time to view the required work.  The tender for repair quotes will be open until November 13, 2009 at 4:00 pm.
