Eatonia Oasis Living - January 2010

January 31, 2010

Eatonia Oasis Living – January 2010

The New Year is in full swing at E.O.L.  This month we enjoyed a period of unseasonably warm weather.  Some of our residents have been able to take advantage of this time and have gone for a walk in the nice fresh air.  Others enjoyed it from the window, watching and counting the numerous deer as they graze in the back yard.  As we took down our Christmas decorations we reflected on how thankful we are to all of those who participated in making this Christmas season so special for us at E.O.L.  We greatly appreciated all the yummy Christmas candy, chocolate and food donations, the surprise Christmas Carolers, and the many people who have visited and invested their time in E.O.L.

The E.O.L Staff Christmas party was held on January 16th at the Eatonia Community Hall.  We extend our many thanks to the Eatonia Catering Committee for the delicious buffet supper, and also thank you to everyone who sang (or tried to sing!!!) karaoke.

On January 21st the residents enjoyed a special activity afternoon with the help of volunteers from grades 4 -7 of Eaton School.  We had a “carnival” with various activity stations including Shuffle Board, Wii Bowling, and the Bean Bag Toss game.  Thank you to everyone who took part in this special day!

This month of January, we did not have any birthdays to celebrate, but since we all love parties and food we celebrated anyways!   Thank you very much to the Christian Fellowship Church for the fun “Winter Party.”  The residents had a very pleasant afternoon eating and visiting.  With January coming to an end we currently have a total of 21 residents at EOL.

As always, the residents had a good time participating in our regular morning and afternoon activities of the month.  Our morning exercise class has had regular almost full attendance, as the residents like to stretch to music, toss bean bags and throw around a bouncy ball.  This is followed by a “work bee” of folding laundry, which is the best part of all!  Our ladies always reminisce on how that was their regular chore at home, and how they never thought they would actually miss folding laundry!  Then it’s coffee and visiting time, it’s a good time to look out the window and speculate on the weather, or put in a few pieces of the “always-on-the-go” puzzle corner.

The residents love attending the weekly Wednesday Church services hosted by the Lutheran, United, Catholic, and Christian Fellowship Churches.  Thank you so much to the various Pastors, who give of their time to share God’s word with us.  Also thank you to those from each church who attend to assist, play music, visit, and serve coffee (and sometimes homemade treats!)  This is a special time for the residents who truly appreciate the time of hymn singing, worship, and fellowship.

The residents always enjoy seeing people and children from the community.  If anyone would like to come in and spend quality time visiting, having a coffee with, or participating in an activity with our wonderful residents, please call Heather at 967-2447.
